[[ooc: THIS. IS. ALL. FU'S. FAULT. ALL. OF. IT.]]
It had been a gesture of goodwill and something any admirable upperclassman and gentleman would have done, helping his student council secretary study for exams. If the studying just so happened to take place at her house, well, that was due to Shizuka having to babysit her brother while her parents were out at a business dinner. And so far, Sho had learned several things that he hadn't known.
Like how Shizuka apparently wore her hair down and dressed rather formally at home, a fact she waved aside with a laugh and chalked it up to "presenting the right person" to any important guests and her parents.
And how her house was almost completely silent.
... And how there were at least ten plush creatures arranged neatly on her bed that resembled things varying from eels to giraffes and... blobs.
"They're not mine," Shizuka insisted almost immediately, spotting the look on his face. "They're Hideo's! All of them! He's a really big fan of Mokepon--"
"Shizuka-san..."
"I just keep them on my bed so he doesn't lose them! They're definitely not mine! Even E-- the fluffy brown one, I mean, even if it's cute, that's why, h-he gets so embarrassed to tell anyone he collects them a-a-and--"
The poor girl was turning pinker by the second and signing frantically, as if to emphasize her point. If he wasn't worried about upsetting her further, Sho would have smiled at the sight. Now that he thought about it, didn't she have a key chain of one of those things on her school bag?
"And I help Hideo with his game sometimes, and it's just-- well, he likes to watch the anime in the morning, too--"
"Mokepon...?" Sho looked at the plushies thoughtfully. "Ah, that would be the series for children of elementary age, wouldn't it?"
"Elementary...?" And there was the look that always made him feel like he'd ruthlessly punted a puppy.
"Well, obviously it's juvenile, and--" He stopped as Shizuka's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Er..."
He'd said some more things nervously that he couldn't recall now, but whatever he'd said, it was enough to cause his friend to not only kick him out of her room, but lock the door.
Silence, and then the muffled yelling started.
"STUPID SENPAI JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE CUTE DOESN'T MEAN I'M JUVENILE AT LEAST I DON'T EAT MY COUSIN'S PUDDING I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO SAY ANYTHING SHOULD HAVE JUST STAYED IN THE MAIN ROOM AAAAAAAGH YOU JERK"
Sho was rooted to the spot, not sure if mentioning that he was still here was a good idea. As Shizuka's ranting continued, her little brother wandered up. Upon seeing the closed door and the boy standing there, he raised his eyebrows inquisitively. Sho shrugged helplessly, not having learned enough Sign Language to tell him "Your sister is furious with me because I inadvertently called her juvenile".
Hideo nodded wisely and patted his arm, then knocked a pattern on the door. It opened wide enough to admit him and he slipped inside.
Silence again. And then--
"He WHAT?!"

Shizuka didn't speak to him for a week. She showed up to student council on time and greeted the others cheerfully enough, but never spoke with him unless he addressed her first, and only stayed long enough to complete her minutes and any remaining paperwork before she took off.
It was immature, she knew, avoiding the president like this, especially when she'd brushed off far more insulting comments with a laugh, but when it came from him... it sort of hurt. And she didn't like the feeling.
"Ugh, at least the day's over," she muttered tiredly, opening her locker to replace her shoes-- and blinking when her hand brushed against something hard and plastic. When she drew it out, it turned out to be a yellow rodent-like creature with stripes and bright pink spots on its cheeks that she recognized immediately as a key character from the Mokepon series.
"What...?" Holding the key chain in one hand, Shizuka fumbled in her locker for additional clues, and came up with a note. There was no signature, but the two words scrawled on it told her everything.

Sho was frowning over his newest stack of paperwork, when the door slid open.
"Hello, Senpai!"
"Good afternoon, Shizuka-san," he answered absently-- and then froze. Wait-- had she just--
As if to confirm his suspicions, Shizuka plopped into the seat beside him, placing her bag beside her. Sho had enough time to catch a glimpse of the newest addition to her key chains. The sight gave him enough courage to clear his throat.
"Shizuka-san... about what I mindlessly said earlier--"
"Over and done with," she interrupted. "But I'm sorry, too. Now--" The brunette was already digging for her clipboard. "What's on the agenda for today, Senpai?"
This time, Sho allowed himself a smile, although his businesslike nature returned when the twins walked in. "Our first order of business for the day pertains to the funding allotted to the Astronomy Club..."
It was worth the amount of money he'd wasted digging through the capsule machines in the shopping district for the right one.
Until that damned Yankee called out, "Hey, try to get the ring for me this time, will ya? Big spendeeeeer!" the next time he walked past.
