(Tag to all the student council of Inoue =D)
It was after school on a Tuesday, the day after he had asked someone to be the student council's new secretary, and Sho suddenly found himself faced with a lot of work. He had forgotten that the school trip that was happening in a few days. The old secretary had left some of the paperwork uncompleted, and so it fell to him to finish it. Which was fine, of course, because archery club was not meeting this week and so he couldn't feel guilty about skipping practice.
The problem was he had asked Shizuka to come in that day so he could teach her how to take notes and show her just what was expected of her as secretary. And while the paperwork for the school trip was a perfect example, it was... a little frightening to someone who didn't know what they were doing. And so he sat in the student council room, alone at the moment, spinning his pen between his fingers as he tried to figure out the best way to organize everything. That was his job, after all.
A small stack of papers sat before him, needing his own signature and those of several teachers. Proposals from clubs, complaints from students--where had all this come from since summer break? Did the last secretary really leave that much unfinished? Sho stifled a sigh and leaned back in his chair to stare at the ceiling. "Wonder if any one else will come in today," he wondered idly, pulling off his glasses and tossing them onto the desk. He didn't want to call any of the others to see if they would be at club instead, but he really needed at least one other person to help him out.

Luckily for Sho, help was on the way.
Unluckily for Sho, that help was only helpful by nature and not in terms of experience... but it was the thought that counted, anyway.
Shizuka only wished she hadn't agreed so readily before she'd known what Life had in store for her. Like her parents going out for their anniversary, which normally wouldn't have been a bad thing, but her little brother had caught some kind of bug from school, which meant she spent the majority of the evening taking care of him, which meant she didn't start her homework until eleven, and her parents weren't back until well-past midnight, which, really, no parent ought to be doing on a weeknight!
She hadn't even bothered to try for a bun today, sticking with a full-fledged ponytail on her way out the door this morning, and dropping in on basketball practice only to hear that three of the members were also sick (or at least two of them; one of them had probably ditched), and now she was dashing to student council and hoping against hope that she didn't look as drained as she felt.
"I'm sorry I'm late!" She cried, sliding the door open and giving Sho her best apologetic expression. "I had to check on the... um." Her eyes fell on the stack of papers, and she looked at them for a long moment (all the while wondering if it was too late to make a break for it), then up at the tired-looking president, then down at the papers. The hesitation in her eyes was replaced with determination, and she straightened up.
"Looks like we've got a lot today, huh? Let's see if we can knock it all out! Just tell me what I need to do, Leader!"
Sometimes it was nice to have a reserve of optimism.

Things had gotten far too behind. And, of course, the twins were just the sort that always wanted their work done before it really needed to be. It had been very frustrating trying to estimate and plan a budget for the second half of the year with the recent lack of a secretary. While they had managed to take their own notes during the student council meetings, it was still difficult to be ahead without the proper outside records in order.
The two of them did wonder from time to time why they even agreed to be the treasurers of the student council. Their grades in mathematics were good enough and with the two of them checking over each other's calculations they managed to get by without error so far. That much was easy. It was dealing with the other people that was truly aggravating. It wasn't like either of them ever found the former to be very reliable, because even if he finished all of his work he never really had it done by the time they needed it. So, it wasn't too much of a loss to see him leave. However, recruiting a new secretary should've happened before the old one even left. The fact that it didn't happen only made things harder on the rest of the council. Sao and Miu weren't really extremely upset with it, but since it wasn't their job to pick up where any of the others had slacked off they had no intention of troubling themselves with the extra work. Just let the guy in charge worry about it since it was technically his own fault anyway.
However, Sao had suggested they go check up on how far Sho had gotten with the extra paperwork siting around that had been begging for attention. It was partially to see what they could use to get their own work down, and partially to indirectly remind the beloved president again that next time he should have back-up candidates ready for these just-in-case situations where they were needed.
Upon reaching the student council room, though, they paused by the doorway. Sure enough, Sho was working away on the stack of papers, but along with him was a girl. The question wasn't who was she. It was a familiar face that they couldn't immediately pin a name to. They knew they were in the same year, but not the same class. Still, it was hard not to remember seeing someone so... energetic in the halls, even if at the moment she almost appeared rather worn out. The real question was a why was she even there.
"...Do you need something?" Miu spoke up without so much as a greeting, even though she wasn't exactly even interested in an answer. It was really more of her subtle way of saying if she didn't have a reason to be there for the moment then she shouldn't be.

Startled by someone's sudden (and energetic) entrance into the student council room, Sho jerked back into an upright position--the pen falling from between his upper lip and his nose. He blinked several times, trying to bring the image into focus before he realised his glasses were on the table in front of him. But it was hard to mistake that voice. "Shizuka-san!" he said, still a little surprised. He rose to his feet, only to hear his pen fall to the floor. "Ah, sorry--I'm a little disoriented right now." with a short laugh, he knelt down to grab the pen and replaced it onto the desk.
"And, well..." The young man slipped his glasses back onto his face with one hand, the other brushing back through his dark hair as he let out a hesitant sigh. "I didn't expect no one else to be here... But I don't want to make you do this work just yet when you're only starting out. I was hoping that you could just learn how to take minutes." Sho rubbed the back of his neck while studying the piles of papers in front of him, but looked up as the door to the Student Council room opened up.
"Sao, Miu!" he said, relief echoing in his voice as a small smile appeared at the corner of his lips. "Shizuka-san, these two are Sao and Miu Suzu. They're the treasurers for the Student Council." Sho turned his attention to the twins, expression becoming businesslike as he sat back down in the chair. "I'm almost finished with the paperwork that the two of you need. Would you be able to help teach Shizuka-san some of the basics until I've completed them? it shouldn't take too long, I promise." And Sho liked to stick to his word. The sooner everything got done, the better.

It really was a good thing she'd mastered the art of the Straight Face, because it took all of Shizuka's willpower not to burst out laughing at the startled look on her senpai's face. He'd always given off a composed and businesslike air before; it was nice to know that even Sho had his awkward moments.
About to reply to him now, she stopped as the door opened, and turned to see who the newcomers were. Sao and Miu Suzu, she knew immediately. There weren't many twins in the school, and this particular pair had rumors circulating about them that had never truly died down. Still, she'd never had the chance to talk to them (despite them being in the same year and in nearby classrooms), so she didn't want to make assumptions just yet. She'd have problems if she couldn't even get along with the other members.
"Sao-san, Miu-san," she greeted them cheerfully, giving them a nod of recognition. "Sorry for the trouble! I'll learn as quickly as I can so I don't trip anybody up." Yet another person who stuck to her word; once Shizuka committed to something, she wouldn't quit until the task was satisfactorily complete.

She was... their new secretary. They gave no comment on it, as they weren't quite sure whether or not this was a bad thing. All they could do was give an apathetic look of skepticism toward Sho and Shizuka. It wasn't that she didn't seem capable. They really didn't know whether or not she'd be able to do the job. But that was just it. They didn't know.
Would they be able to help train her? Sure. Did they want to or think they should have to? No, not really. Then again, if they were the ones to train her at least they would know she'd be doing her job correctly. Hopefully.
"Of course," Sao answered with a quick nod. "It's no trouble. What exactly do you need to learn though?"
Miu gave a light sigh as they stepped further into the room and sat down their bags. The plan was to just check up on Sho, but now they would be stuck there for awhile longer. "As secretary you'll have to be able to keep minutes, prepare the agendas for each meeting, take care of the basic paperwork involving events and other miscellaneous correspondence, and you'll probably want to keep a master calendar of everything for easy reference," she explained.
"But what matters most are organization skills and punctuality. Outside of that it's all fairly simple, so you shouldn't have a problem learning any of it." ...Hopefully.

As Miu began to name the duties, and the list only grew, so too did Shizuka's sense of dread. Agendas? Paperwork? Miscellaneous correspondence? Just as she'd thought, this was--
Realization struck like a blow to the head and she nearly toppled over from the sheer force of it (or maybe that was just exhaustion). Underneath the proper terms and tasks, there was one key thing.
Organization and punctuality. While not a stickler, Shizuka did know how to do those things, and do them well. Well, other than keeping track of her own things, but she'd kept the basketball team under control well enough, and she was already digging for her clipboard and a fresh sheath of paper. This was like managing the team, only with less sweat and more papers. That was just fine with her.
"Paperwork... and a master calendar, most likely starting from this week, and with the school trip coming up... oh, and there'll be the Culture Festival, too...the agendas will be easier to read typed, so it's better to bring a laptop..." After some quick jotting down of legible notes, she looked back up at the twins, still chipper but firm when she spoke.
"Like I said, I won't be a problem, and I mean it. Did the former secretary leave anything that I could use as a reference?"

For some reason they half expected her to crack after she was warned of her duties, but instead she just showed her bright determination still. Really, both of them were inwardly rolling their eyes, but they still said nothing regarding their opinions on the matter. At least so far she seemed like she was going to take the job seriously then. Typed agendas sounded like a nice enough change, too. That was much better than vomiting up a barely legible list of things to discuss on the dry erase board. Though Sao had to shake his head and frown at her question.
"There are records lying around... I'm sure senpai's been using some of them with the work he's been doing now," he said, briefly looking over at Sho's paper pile. "But the old secretary stayed rather busy before he finally decided to officially leave his position, so it's hard to say if there's anything from him that would be of much use to you by this point."
"Though..." Miu trailed off for a moment, going back over to dig a small brown book from her bag. It wasn't anything special or fancy really with the exception of the small flower print on the cover. It was merely a mostly unused day planner. She carefully handed it over to Shizuka. "I took notes of the last few meetings, so you can see where we stand at the moment. Don't take it as a proper way to take minutes though. I only bothered writing down half of what was suggested and discussed."
"The other half usually isn't worth budgeting, so it has nothing to do with us."
"You can keep that planner for as long as you need to though. I don't really use it and we don't need those notes any more."

Shizuka accepted the planner just as carefully as it had been offered, opening it to peruse its contents. Like Miu had said, there wasn't much, but what was there proved to be of use. With it, she could get a gist of what the meetings tended to consist of, and that meant being more prepared for next time.
"Got it. I'll give it back to you soon." She smiled gratefully at both of them, still tired but filled with new purpose. If they were going through the effort of teaching her the ropes, it was all she could do not to disappoint them. And the president too, of course. If that meant spending her first day sorting through records and documents and typing up schedules, so be it.
And if that meant going home afterward to collapse on her bed, that was fine, too.
She almost wished this hadn't been on such short notice, what with the trip looming on the horizon and other events in the school's near future. It was a lot to learn and not a lot of time to learn it by, but there was no point in complaining or bemoaning her fate. At least this new role was something she could handle.
Hopefully.

"I'm sure." She actually really wasn't. However, she forced herself to smile back at the girl before looking over at her brother. Where to begin now... "Now that you have an idea of what you need to learn we should probably get down to business and actually teach you some of the skills you'll need."
"Keeping minutes is probably a good place to start since everything else is common sense." It was a true enough suggestion. It wasn't writing class, so they weren't going to sit there and spend all of their time trying to teach her how to write appropriate letters. If she didn't know how to do that by then, they would just catch her when it happened and scold her.
"We'll start there then."
The two nodded in agreement with one another without really asking Shizuka where she wanted to start. Being the teachers in the situation, they felt they knew what was best anyway. "Have you ever kept minutes for a meeting before?"

How odd; this training session felt almost as if she were back in class, listening as the teacher rambled on and staying silent, because really-- what good would speaking have done? What good had it ever did?
Shizuka kept her thoughts to herself, reminding herself that they were more experienced and thus they knew what was best to teach her. As the newest member, she had to learn it all at some point anyway.
... If only they hadn't mentioned past experiences with minutes. She nearly winced in reminiscence of all those times she'd had to take minutes for the most trivial things, like family dinners, because her father insisted she'd need the skills in the long run, and it never hurt to keep things recorded. That, and Hideo had always liked to read them.
Family dinners, though. Of all things... well, at least she hadn't had to do them as much as she got older. Quickly snapping (mostly) out of it, Shizuka began listing the points off on her fingers.
"The date and place of the meeting, the type of meeting it is, those presiding and present at the meeting, any motions made or business discussed with attention paid to what was resolved or decided upon, any problems..." What the youngest member of the family had for dessert, how many times the father snapped his chopsticks...

Sao and Miu weren't exactly speechless, but they paused as they were almost surprised by everything she spewed out. Honestly, they weren't expecting that to come out of her just like it was nothing. Of course, they were merely judging her based on assumptions. The more they wanted to prove to themselves she wasn't cut out for the job, the more she proved otherwise. They couldn't help but give her a funny look though. The way she spat it out was just so odd.
Hesitantly, Miu gave another nod. "Yes, that's about it. Just be sure to have it all done in the correct format and be sure that it's clearly written if you do it by hand. If you're using a laptop then make sure your grammar and spelling are in check."
"Right. When we're looking through papers, we want to be able to read the information we need."
"We don't want to have to learn a foreign language just to do so."
"Then, speaking of formatting, we should move on to the next subject since you seem to have an understanding of how to keep minutes already. You'll need to make sure you're up to date with your formal writing in general. For example.. when you're writing response letters to clubs or any other people in general it may be 'cute' to put happy little faces in the text, but it's wrong."
"It's hard to take those sorts of things seriously, and when you're writing as a representative of the student council it's unnecessary as well as unnerving to the rest of the student body."
It was probably just them being as negative and distrustful as ever, but they weren't willing to give her the benefit of any doubts they had still. Just because she seemed to be prepared for her duties so far didn't mean she could actually handle it all. However, it seemed like Sho actually did choose someone with experience, even if it had to have been a rushed decision on his part. Maybe their president had a list of possible candidates ready all along and this would all work out wonderfully for the time being? That would've been hard to believe. If only they were willing to give him that much credit.

There went Shizuka's hopes and dreams of livening up letters, but she hadn't expected to be allowed to doodle on serious documents anyway, so no surprise there. This was student council, and she was supposed to be one part of a collective body that represented the entire student body. It was a serious responsibility that required a great deal of formality and intelligence (and she had to question being Sho's choice yet again).
Not like I'm not used to formality, she thought unhappily, a brief frown appearing until she returned to her note-taking. It'll be just like home.
"That's understandable..." Shizuka's choice of words were reserved, purposely so. Her opinions were going to be voiced only to herself, at least for the time being. "Is there anything else?"

Sho was only half-listening to the conversation as he continued to work on the papers. He was trying to make sure that Shizuka was actually picking up all that she needed to, and making sure that the twins weren't giving her a hard time. They always tended to seem a little skeptical of the others. But he managed to finish the first set of papers he owed them within a quick time. Rearranging them into the proper order, double checking to make sure that everything was right, he put a paperclip on the first sheaf and stretched his arms.
The young man rose to his feet, rounding his desk and standing behind Shizuka and staring down at the twins. "Play nice," he warned with a small grin, holding out the papers towards Sao. "Here's the first set. The second set is almost done, I just need to double check and make sure it's the same as our minutes from before." He looked between the two of them. "Do you want to wait for them or should I just give them to you tomorrow morning before classes?"
He glanced down at Shizuka. "You getting along alright?" Sho asked with a polite smile.

Her response this time was much more reserved. She understood, which was good, but they still doubted that she would do it. They would just drive the point home with the next subject to go over, but that was thrown out when Sho interrupted the conversation. Just as well. There really wasn't much left to say. Sao rolled his eyes at Sho's small grin as he took the papers from him. He really wanted to come back with at least a 'play less stupid', but he held his tongue. It didn't really matter anyway. "We were just trying to make sure she's prepared."
"If she can't handle a little pressure now, how do you expect her to later?" The twins looked at each other and shrugged as if they had done no wrong. It made sense to them. Not that they were playing nice anyway. It was funny how Sho could figure that out when he normally seemed clueless. Well, in their opinion given their positions on certain matters at least. With a small sigh, Miu hopped up to sit on one of the desks while Sao started glancing over the papers Sho gave him. "We'll just wait for them now though."
"It's not as if we have anything better to do without them."
"But you don't need to worry about Shizuka. We really don't know what you want to teach her, because she seems like she already knows everything," she commented dryly.

I know absolutely nothing, Shizuka wanted to say. I have no clue what I'm doing or why I agreed to this, and I'll probably be up all night just to make sure I'm doing all of the paperwork right, and I WISH I knew everything, because maybe then I wouldn't feel like such an idiot!
What actually came out of her mouth was a tired and vaguely embarrassed laugh and a small smile up at Sho. Not that she thought the twins were deliberately making her uncomfortable, but there was just something about them that made her feel that she should tread cautiously.
"They've been pretty patient with me," she told him now, adjusting her clipboard. "I'll do my best to remember everything, too, Senpai!"

Sho couldn't help but give a slight frown at the look from the twins. But instead of saying anything, he just let out a faint sigh and shrugged one arm. While he would have preferred if they didn't make her too intimidated (he wanted the student council to be comfortable with each other, because the easier they could work with each other, the easier they could work with others), he understood that this was simply they way they were. Sho liked to think he knew them well enough to tell when they were serious or simply indifferent.
And so when Miu said that Shizuka had a pretty decent understanding on the basics of secretarial duty, he believed her.
"Don't be afraid to ask them or myself any questions you might have," Sho told her, trying to give her a bit of reassurance despite her confident reply. "Would you like to try going over one of the budget sheets from the last meeting with Sao and Miu?" He turned back to the desk he was working at, pulling out a proposal from the track team regarding a fundraiser they wanted to do, as well as a blank form and handed them both to Shizuka. "Basically all you have to do with figure out how much to allot to them, profit, extra expenses, and so on and fill out this form." He tapped the top sheet of paper. "We'll use it at the next meeting to approve of proposal, or see if we have to ask them to change something."

She knew he'd meant to be reassuring, but Sho's suggestion that she might ask them more questions-- ask more of them-- only strengthened Shizuka's resolve to not cause them any more trouble. She could be outspoken, sure, but when it ran the risk of inconveniencing other people, she would keep her mouth firmly shut and figure things out on her own.
So it was that all she did was nod politely and accept the new papers from the president, taking a moment to look them over. Nothing too difficult, even if she wasn't the best at math, but with three of them working on it, surely it couldn't be hard!
You're so screwed, the random inner voice (that tended to show up when she least wanted to) commented.
"All right, then!" As usual, Shizuka ignored her thoughts and gave Sho and the twins a thumbs-up. "Let's do it!"

Pretty patient? Well, both supposed they were pretty patient people. However, her unbreakable optimism was getting almost annoying. They weren't in the position to talk until she started messing up, though. At least she was trying. Now to put the skills to the test... After this they would probably have a better understanding of how well she would really do in the position. Not that it mattered to them in the end anyway. The twins half-heartedly returned her thumbs up together with brief smiles. They at least put some effort into making them seem not so sarcastic, but they probably looked that way anyway.
"Well, pull up a chair then," Sao suggested, doing so himself to the desk next to the one Miu was sitting on. "This shouldn't take too long. Is it the one about the cookie fundraiser they're doing?"
Miu actually gave a genuine grin at the mention of it. The track team cookies. Why on earth did they decide on that of all things? It didn't seem like a fund raiser any manly track team member would want to do. She would be willing to bet it was being dominated by the girls. Either that or the effeminate men. One or the other... or both. "I still think they're going to get mauled by girl scouts."
|
|
|
Post by Shizuka Nakano on Apr 9, 2009 0:12:05 GMT -5
Shizuka promptly obeyed and snagged a chair to drag a little closer to the twins, although she was reluctant to leave Sho's side just yet. He, at least, didn't make her feel even more like an idiot with just a smile.
... Not anymore, anyway. But all of them were trying, so that was progress of some sort.
"Track-- cookies?" One eyebrow arched, and Shizuka blinked a few times, wondering if she'd heard them wrong. If she remembered correctly, the track team consisted mainly of guys, and none of them seemed like the type to stand around kitchens with aprons wrapped around their bulky forms and delicately maneuver cookie sheets and form perfectly shaped balls of dough. And then the girl scouts pouring out of nowhere, flinging their own boxes of cookies in retaliation... the thought alone had her torn between laughing and shaking her head.
"That's not something I'd ever imagine them to be doing, but I'm not sure I want to ask their reasoning on it." Drawing out her pencil, she began scanning the budget sheet. "But I guess whatever rocks their-- no-- floats their-- never mind."
|
|
|
Post by Suzu Twins on Apr 9, 2009 2:07:45 GMT -5
Sao gave her a questioning look as she pulled up her chair without really getting too close. Miu would've reassured her that they didn't bite, but neither of them really minded the distance. Most people were best kept at somewhat of a distance anyway. The male of the duo quickly brushed off the observation and placed his hand to his mouth as he contemplated the easiest beginning point for the document.
Well, then again, the best place to begin wasn't necessarily the easiest. He decided to make it clear that they weren't going to be very generous with their financial contributions first. "It is hard to imagine them baking anything edible... So, it'd be best to limit their budget so that they can only make simple cookies," he stated firmly as his subtle way to make his point. Miu nodded in agreement with her brother.
"That way they won't make a mess trying to get into anything too complicated, and they'll be less wasteful with what they have."
"Let's assume that they'll just make things like.... Oh, chocolate chip, sugar, oatmeal, peanut butter, and..."
"Just chocolate?"
"Those would be good..."
"Especially with white chocolate chips."
"We should bake some ourselves sometime."
"Of course. Who knows what the track team actually would end up putting in them."
The twins had a short fit of mild laughter between themselves at the thought. Yeah, there was no way they were going to pay for those. They quickly put back on their more indifferent expressions though as Sao looked back over at Shizuka. "Anyway, so we need to come up with a minimal number based on the cost of ingredients, but there are plenty of other expenses that may come into play."
"Basic packaging would be a big one. They really don't need to do anything fancy there either, so just adding in the cost of some plastic wrap should be fine."
"Right. Then once we know how much everything will cost together then we can make an estimate of how much each cookie will cost to make and then we can figure out how much they'll need to sell them for in order to make a decent profit." They were trying to loosely explain to her everything that came to mind with it without rambling on too much. They doubted she really need every excruciating detail with it since hopefully she would be able to figure out what they left out.
Miu looked up for a moment in thought, trying to figure out how much all of that would cost together at somewhere cheap like Junes. "Did they list down a profit goal on the request form?"

It took more than a couple of minutes for all of this to sink into Shizuka's head. She'd never been the greatest at math, and listening to the twins toss factual tidbits and ideas back and forth made her feel as though she was back in class, trying to understand a lecture that was soaring proudly over her head.
As she listened, she began to break it down into terms easier for her to understand-- and the fact that they were trying to get their points across to her helped tremendously.
1.) The track team wanted to do a cookie fundraiser. Based on expenses, it would be better to have the cookies be simple. 2.) A minimal number needed to be reached, considering not only ingredient costs, but packaging as well. 3.) Figuring out the afore-mentioned would make it easier to do estimates of the number of cookies that had to be sold in order for the team to benefit from the proceeds.
Satisfied that she had at least a basic grasp on the situation, Shizuka looked down at the sheet again. "They list potential profits at fifty-two thousand, six hundred yen. It looks like they're trying to raise enough money to get new uniforms for all of the members."

Sho was only half-listening to the conversation that passed back and forth between the three students. Cookies? Someone else tried that in the first term, but their cookies didn't sell too well. It was pretty brave (or stupid) of the track team to try and do a follow-up to the first-term cookie fiasco that was the occult club.
Well, maybe the name of the club just sort of spoke for the nature of the cookies. He never bought one himself, but he had heard stories and plenty of complaints the following weeks.
The young man frowned as he signed a final paper and shuffled them back into order. "The track team has been trying to raise money for new uniforms for the past three terms. We haven't had a problem with them in the past as far as returning all the money they owe, but... We'll probably have to approach them about it if they don't get new uniforms after this fundraiser. I had been a bit hesitant about letting them do one last term, but this one will certainly have to be the last one that's listed as 'new uniforms'." He paper-clipped the papers together and stood up from his desk to hand them to the twins. "How much did they want to borrow?"

The twins frowned at the number. That much? It was bad enough that they were trying cookies this time, but it was for uniforms? Again? It figured. Sho had said everything they were thinking. It really was ridiculous for them to be having another fund raiser for new uniforms when it never seemed to happen. They could at least spend their profit on some new hurdles, but no. Sao and Miu were almost suspicious that the money was actually being used to fund their rumored weekly pizza night, but as they were a duo that kept to themselves they had no way to confirm that. Their only source was one of the gossiping girls from the team that was also in the dance club.
Once again it was Sao who accepted the papers from Sho, briefly glancing over them as well while the discussion continued. Miu leaned over slightly to take a peek at them as well. "Whatever they want, they're not getting much," she confirmed as she did. Chances were giving the team the exact amount they wanted to borrow was a waste of time and resources.

"Let's see..." Shizuka consulted the paper once more-- and then did a double-take, taking the time to eye the figure listed more carefully. After two more incredulous checks, she sat back in her chair and pressed a hand over her eyes, a sure sign that she was developing a headache.
"Thirty thousand," she muttered bleakly. "Isn't that a little too much? I mean, they'd have to make an incredible sale if they want to meet their profit goal and still pay back the council..." She didn't want to begrudge them of their optimism, but there was only so much optimism could do in the face of reality. Not to mention that the demands felt too high, even if they did pay off what they borrowed. She'd made baked goods before for fundraisers; even with all the costs of production, there were ways to minimize those costs. This... wasn't one of them.

Thirty-thousand? The number seemed to be going up each time they attempted a fundraiser. Last time they had been hesitant about allowing even twenty, and had warned the track team against it. And Sho could remember, from the year before when he was the Student Council secretary, that the price had increased from ten thousand to fifteen thousand from the first term to the second. Twenty at the beginning of the year, and now suddenly thirty.
He pulled up a desk on the other side of Shizuka. "Even though we'll have to vote on this officially at the next meeting, we definitely cannot give them that much. I say fifteen just to be a little lenient, and it's obvious they won't get to reach their goal regardless of how much we give them. But at least this way it won't be so hard for them to pay us back when it comes down to it." He looked at the twins over Shizuka's head. "How does that sound to you?"

It was just ridiculous. The number really had been growing and the twins, being the good and somewhat tight treasurers, were reluctant to give them anything for that sort of stupid fund raiser to begin with. They were going to both vote no at the next student council meeting anyway.
"No," Sao quickly responded. Fifteen thousand was more reasonable, but there was no way they were going to be that lenient again. The track team couldn't keep failing to meet their objective and expect to get more money. A steeper cut for the funds they requested would give them a quick realistic boot to the head. He leaned back in his chair for a moment, looking to his sister for a better sounding number.
"Let's give them ten thousand. No more than that, but preferably less," she suggested just as promptly. "It doesn't cost that much to make a lot of simple cookies. If they kept their spending down and priced their goods appropriately they could still reach their goal." Maybe. They'd only make just enough though. It wasn't like they needed brand new shoes with their uniforms. It made more sense to her for the individuals to worry about that anyway. If they could afford to go to the school they did, it wasn't like they couldn't spare some change here and there on themselves.

Shizuka kept her silence in order to let the more experienced members have their say, her head swiveling between the president and the twins as each one spoke their opinion. Fifteen thousand still seemed like a lot, but would the track team even be able to make the kind of profit they needed with ten thousand?
There were other methods, she told herself, rather than voice her doubts to the others. Maybe even more efficient methods, like part-time jobs or washing people's cars (although with how much rain Inaba got, the carwashing business would probably be an even bigger flop).
"It might take some effort, but it's possible," she muttered, half to herself, while the majority of her attention was focused on jotting down everything that had just transpired and a reminder that official voting was going to be taking place next meeting. The vice-president would hopefully be present then.

"Ten is fine, then. We'll discuss it better when we have the full council at the next meeting. I'll send a notice to the track team captains to make sure they show up for the meeting." Sho absently rubbed one of his eyes. "Speaking of notices, I'll sent out one to the homeroom teachers so that they make sure they have all of their forms in from their students. The school trip is in two days, and I have a feeling we're still missing some..."
The young man glanced up at the twins, then over at the girl sitting next to him. "That's all that really needs to be discussed. Thanks Sao and Miu for sticking around to help out." He indicated to the papers that Sao was holding. "Those are the most pressing ones that need to be taken care of, and the other requests can wait until the next full council meeting to be addressed. Shizuka-san, thank you for your patience. You are all free to go now, if you wish." Sho rose to his feet and made his way back to his desk. "I'll finish up signing these and getting the teacher signatures before taking care of the notices to the homeroom teachers and delivering those to their boxes."
Again, he looked back and forth between the three students. "The next full council meeting is the Wednesday after the school trip, so be sure to keep that date open."
(We can go ahead and start wrapping this up 8Db)

Giving a quick nod, Miu was still trying to put together the numbers in her head. Effort was a must, but it was probably better for them to work hard for their goal anyway. Wasn't that what sports teams were supposed to do? In fact, after they had a more accurate cost estimation it would've been better yet to knock the price down as far as they could, but that discussion could wait until the next meeting.
Then the trip was mentioned again. In any school, there was always a pocket of students who waited until the last minute to turn in their slips if they even bothered to turn them in at all. There was nothing more frustrating than watching someone expect to go on a trip when they hadn't done something so simple as getting their forms turned in. The twins had planned to go in the beginning of the year as well, because... well, hey, it was Disneyland. Few people could say to no to that. And those few that could would probably still find it entertaining to go mascot tipping. They had their forms to return the day after they were issued. Though after their involvement with Amenthes they had discussed whether or not they should bother going. Then they realized it would've been too late to get the money they had paid to go, and it would've been such a waste whether or not they still wanted to go. Thankfully, groups weren't mandatory at the park this year. The last trip to Tobu World Square was ruined by the boy in their group who decided it was a great idea to dress up like Godzilla and pretend terrorize the Modern Japan exhibit. How he even managed to get away with sneaking in, they would never know, but it was nice to know they wouldn't have to worry about getting stuck with morons again.
The only thing they had to worry about was rooming with morons. Good roommates were difficult to find in a school full of people they didn't particularly care for. Their gender differences had separated them in that area, so Miu was stuck rooming with some girls from the dance club and Sao was stuck with Sho and two other morons he honestly didn't know. Oh well. At least for the most part they were rooming with morons they had to deal with on a regular basis anyway.
And that was it. There wasn't anything else to worry about and they had their papers, so there was no way they were going to waste any more time trying to teach a girl things she already understood. "Oh, we just wanted to wait for the papers. You're welcome though." The two got up from their seats, stepping over to pick up their bags before heading toward the door.
"We'll make sure to have everything finished on time as always," Miu added, looking back at Sho and then Shizuka. "Good luck with the secretary business."
