Name: Yukiko Amagi
Age: 16
Date of Birth: December 8th, 1994
Gender: Female
Occupation: Student/Inn Assistant
School: Yasogami High
Class: 2-2
Personality:
Yukiko is a fairly quiet girl, especially around people she doesn’t know. As she gets to know a person though, she opens up, and will talk quite extensively about whatever is interesting her at the moment. She has a hard-to-contain sense of humor, and when something sets it off she can end up laughing for ages without being able to stop herself.
She is very duty-oriented, having been raised with the knowledge that her goal in life is going to be to take over the family inn when she is old enough. While this idea doesn’t exactly thrill her, she’s convinced herself that it is inevitable, and works hard to fulfill her parents wishes. Beyond this, she has interests in many things that would take her away from Inaba, but she doesn’t (currently) believe she will ever be able to pursue those ideas.
The only person outside of her family and the inn staff that she has any strong emotional connection to is her best friend Chie. They have been very close since they were young, and in a way Chie acts as Yukiko’s connection to the rest of the world beyond the Amagi Inn. She tends to be the catalyst for any socialization Yukiko does, and Yukiko is far more attached to her than even she realizes.
She is somewhat socially awkward, and despite the fact that she could be considered ‘popular’ because of how many people want to be her friends, she doesn’t actually have many people she’d call friends.. She often lets Chie take the spotlight in situations where she is uncertain what to do, staying in the background while Chie chases away an unwanted suitor or deals with an angry adult. She is asked out (quite frequently) by boys her age, but rejects them out-of-hand, often not even realizing what their intentions were.
She worries a great deal about the people she cares about, always concerned that she is somehow causing them trouble or making a nuisance of herself. Though she doesn’t realize it, she sometimes feels that she is too dependant on Chie’s protection, and that she is using the stronger girl as a crutch until someone else can ‘rescue’ her from her pre-ordained future.
Despite the fact that she is fairly thin, she often worries about her weight, eating low-calorie food and skipping out on meals if the only options will be fattening. She does, however, love ramen bowls, especially tofu ones, and tends to be unable to resist them when offered.
Positive Characteristics Yukiko is reliable, trustworthy and fairly brave. She cares very deeply for her friends, and will do her vest best not to let them down.
Negative Characteristics She has a bit of a dependant personality, and probably relies more on Chie than she really should.
Appearance:
Yukiko is 5’5 or so, with long straight black hair, pale skin and feminine features. She tends to dress in skirts and blouses, and is always wearing at least one piece of red clothing.

History:
Yukiko was born into the ‘illustrious’ Amagi family, the owners of the Amagi Inn and Hot Springs in the rural town of Inaba, Japan. She has grown up being told, for as long as she can remember, that someday the inn would be hers to inherit, and the family legacy was hers to carry on.
That isn’t to say she didn’t have a pleasant childhood, she simply had far more responsibilities than other people did as she grew up. She was something of an ‘adopted’ daughter to the Inn’s wait staff and cookes, and they and her parents were always watching out for her, teaching her different things or playing games with her. In a sense, the Inn was pretty much her entire world.
She went to school, but since she always rushed home afterwards to learn something, or help out at the inn, she didn’t really have any friends…at least until one day when she was coming home from running an errand for the inn. She found a dog sitting on the side of the road, all alone, and after she went over and petted it, it ended up following her back home to the inn.
By the time she got there of course, she was already attached to the animal, giving it a name and all of that, so when her mother promptly told her that there was no way she could have a pet, and she would have to take him back where she found him, she did the only logical thing.
She ran away from home.
It was an hour later that she was sitting under a tree with the dog, perhaps a mile from the inn, where she met Chie. She knew the girl from school but they weren’t really friends, yet something about how said Yukiko was feeling must have affected Chie, because the other seemed to spend hours trying to make her smile and laugh.
Of course, she ended up giving the dog up and going home, she couldn’t really run away. But after that point, she and Chie were inseparable, hanging out whenever they had the chance. Chie was a much more outgoing person than Yukiko, so she became the wall that helped Yukiko through awkward situations. And Yukiko was growing up to be quite pretty, so she had a slew of those situations waiting for her in the form of dozens of boys all wanting to ask her out. But she always turned them down, and when they got too aggressive Chie was there to get them to back down.
And she kept training to take over the inn, but now at least she had a friend, and through Chie (and perhaps affected by Chie’s influence) she was almost to make a few more acquiantences. But most of her spare time is still spent at the inn, especially during the busy seasons….
Did you read the rules?: I will pursue my true self, yadda yadda.
Writing Sample:
It had taken all day to help clean up the west wing of the inn after the tour group left, but finally, Yukiko had a bit of free time. She wasn’t even sure what she wanted to do with it, she just knew that she didn’t want it to have anything to do with changing sheets or washing bathrooms.
She’d gone and grabbed a book from her room, some adventure story Chie had recommended but that she kept putting off reading, and then hunted up a quiet place in hot springs to curl up and try to read…and honestly probably fall asleep, but she wasn’t really worried about that.
She went out to one of the hot spring changing rooms, sitting down on the edge of the wooden platform and opening the book in her lap, suddenly wishing she’d thought to change out of her kimono before she had decided to take a break. She wore the formal outfit whenever she was doing ‘official inn business’, but it was restrictive and hot, and she got so tired of it sometimes.
But it was too late now, and if she went back inside someone would find some other chore for her to do. So she settled in to read.
She was just starting to get into the story, and could understand why Chie seemed to like it s much…it was definitely her type of story…when she heard the sliding door that led into the rest of the inn swish open behind her.
“Yuki-Chan?” It was one of the waitresses, sounding plaintive, which meant she needed something. “Can you help me in the restaurant for a minute?”
Yukiko frowned at the book, and had to bite her lip to keep from shouting that No, she couldn’t help, it wasn’t her job to help all the time everywhere…but finally she sucked in a breath and nodded. “Yeah, I’m coming…”
