Friday. Inwardly, Souji knew he should probably be at work, but the allure of the court had been a bit too much that day. With no practice scheduled, the gym was completely deserted. That suited him just fine though. Dust hang in the air, illuminated by dense rays of sunshine that filtered in through the high windows and bathed the entire gym in a warm, orange glow. The pine court and rust colored ball he was currently dribbling only added to the pleasant illusion, Souji mused absently while tossing the ball up in the air with a soft spring onto the balls of his feet.
He didn't make the shot, missing out on the pleasant swish of the ball traveling through the net, greeted instead by the sound of the backboard knocking the ball back to the court. Retrieving it quickly, Souji once again started to dribble, adjusting his jersey with one hand while he lapped the gym with the other, letting the rough noises of his failure be forgotten in wake of the squeak of his sneakers echoing throughout the gym in some sort of fragile harmony with the bouncing ball. While some might find the sound lonely, Souji enjoyed the solitude it implied. Pausing in front of the hoop, Souji once again sprung forward; this time rewarded with that swish. Grinning with pride, Souji once again retrieved the ball and started the process over again from the beginning.
He had reason for being here beyond just staying in practice and working out the stress that always came in with the rain (it was supposed to start tomorrow, he reminded himself grimly). The girl he'd met a little over two weeks ago had become a friend quickly; the credit was mostly due to her for her charming and infectious personality, although the fact that her brother and his cousin seemed to be getting closer every day contributed a fair amount to it as well. So when Souji suggested offhand one day while waiting for the smaller children that she meet up with him at the Yasogami gym before they had to go pick up Hideo and Nanako to shoot some hoops, she'd been happy to oblige.
But it was Souji's full intent to take advantage of the few quiet moments alone he had before Shizuka showed up. Taking another shot, which missed but only barely, Souji did just that.
